SUSPENSION OF EMEFIELE BY PRESIDENT TINUBU LAUDABLE; A STEP IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION.

One of the commendable news that ostentatiously spread across the media yesterday, the 9th of June, 2023, was the suspension of the former Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria; Godwin Emefiele by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. While this may appear surprising to very few people and accorded misguided interpretations, anyone who unbiasedly and fairly followed the naira redesign policy and it’s implementations by Emefiele would agree that such suspension is devoid of any personal turbulence between the incarcerated Emefiele and Mr. President, rather it’s a decision in the best interest of the nation and her economy.
As much as I do not believe public offices should be deploy for personal vendetta, I am totally in support of the suspension and arrest of Emefiele by the active and vibrant President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the SSS respectively.
Emefiele’s naira redesign was clearly politically motivated and abysmally implemented to the detriment of average Nigerians and the economy of the nation. The redesign and it’s implementations failed to prioritize the nation’s economy, rather same was perceived to be targeted at certain individuals and publicly aired to be a mechanism to curtail corruptions during the electioneering processes.
Unfortunately, as awesome as the rationale behind the redesign maybe made to appear, there was no iota of justification for it’s existence especially when considered from the havocs that fell on the nation as a result of it’s implementations. More worrisome was the unruly deadline and the deliberate refusal to make the redesigned currency available even after luring the masses to deposit thier so called “old notes” in the banks.
It was sad to note that Emefiele was bent on achieving his aim and personal goal behind the redesign at the detriment of Nigerians, common traders and perishable goods sellers even when it was apparent that the nation’s economy was heading into Golgotha. There could be no better economic sabotage other than this in a democratic society.
As advocates for the masses and voice of the voiceless, my office @Law Corridor had instituted an action in court over what we conceived as blatant disregard to the fundamental rights of the people of this great nation under the watch of now incarcerated Emefiele. Fortunately, the Supreme court stood up for the interest of the masses against the tyrannic system of Emefiele; a position that has further been augmented by the suspension of the then CBN Governor who was believed to be acting under the directives of “order from above”.
The President’s bold decision to suspend Emefiele is indeed applaudable and I believe same is necessary in a bid to wipe corrupt elements out of our public system.
Notwithstanding, I call on Mr. President to further look down the waters and fish out individuals of similar characters irrespective of their position, tribe, region or religion.
