A NEW NIGERIA; MY HEART EXPEESSION

I can boldly say Nigeria hit differently on her 60th anniversary.
There was a great unveiling in the mind of her youths. What a beautiful view it was, seeing those dressed in their beautiful, well-ironed uniform, marching to celebrate the new year of the country on the 1st of October 2020.
Little did we know we are marching into a new dawn, a time of mind shifting for the great nation — Nigeria.
We might not have gotten it, but we are a step into giving birth to a new Nigeria.
Though, this year has been ‘survive of the fittest’ ranging from the coronavirus pandemic which put the whole world on hold to the beautiful and indeed painful event of the #EndSARS protest.
I call it painful because of those dear lives which we lost at the war front, fighting for their right.
On the shining morning of the 3rd of October 2020, Nigerian youths embarked on a peaceful protest tagged #EndSARS to demand the disbandment of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) unit, as well as, other reforms in the Nigerian Police force (NPF).
Date back to 2017, Nigerian youths used the hashtag to share their experiences on violent assault perpetrated by the defunct special Anti-Robbery squad.
With the new phase of Nigeria showing up, the movement revived in October, after a video emerged of Police officers thought to be members of the SARS unit, allegedly killing an unarmed young man.
This prompted Nigerian youths to troop to Twitter calling on the Federal Government for Police reform with the hashtag, #EndSARS, #Endpolicebrutality, and many more.
The hashtag trended continuously on Twitter as Nigerian Youths aired their pain and experiences online.
Twitter has always been a platform for voicing out, you know?
I am scared if the people meant to protect the citizens are those harming them, then what do we need their protection for.
End SARS might just be a start to a new Nigeria if we had it right.
Nigeria has a place in the world outside is one of the corrupt countries.
We are called the ‘Giant of Africa” because of the greatness in us.
To the lives we lost during the protest, I Stan and to those who wouldn’t give up fighting for the country, I respect us.
The blood spilled by those meant to protect us is more than ones spilled by those they are meant to save us from.
The 20th of October 2020 is a day many youths will never forget.
The lives that were lost at Lekki gate was one caused heart pain for many of us.
We need a change in the Country and new Governance will do.
I am certain we all have stories to tell the generation after us, we have letters to write to our forefathers if we have the opportunity and make them see the pains we are passing through.
The future they told us is meant for us isn’t even ours but those who call themselves our leader.
I would say it irritates me when they call us the leaders of tomorrow because it seems like the future isn’t coming forth.
We want a country where everyone will live freely and not be scared of his/her neighbor, we want a place to put our head and wake fearless.
Our lives are not safe if we are being killed because of 50naira on the road
In my state of soberness concerning the situation of this Country, I kept myself updated by watching videos of protest on Twitter, I was amazed seeing many from a particular state, chose to express their pains naked. It occurs to me, this is a sign that we have had enough, and we need a new nation to be birth.
WE HAVE HAD ENOUGH BLOOD SPILLED. WE NEED A NIGERIA.
